About Me. I appreciate your interest in my work. I am a fine art painter specializing in creating representational paintings of Architecture, People, and Places in Acrylic, Casein, Gouache, Watercolor, and Pencil. I also work with other media such as clay, metal and glass. There are so many things that lend themselves to the creative mind and I try to explore them all. I've renovated an old store front at 1621 Main Street in Joplin to be studio space and gallery. I opened Studio Argonauta in October 2006. I'm there often but don't have regular hours. Stop by to see my work and have a cup of coffee when you are in town. As a busy Mom, I am available by chance or by appointment. Parking is available right on Main in front of my building. Please call to see if I'm in before you make a special trip: (417) 483-0002. hgrills@heathergrills.com

Artist's Statement: I create primarily representational Artwork . By capturing the essence of a particular person or place I honor their original Creator. The ability to record even a glimpse of the soul of a person or place is what separates one technically adept painting from a more moving one.
and of small town and rural Missouri, I accept commissions of landscapes and of buildings as well as people and animals because I realize the power of place in my own life. I spent my childhood summers with my Gram in Wells, Maine and feel a deep connection, even though I"m "from away". I spend each summer painting and beach combing with my own children staying in the same little white cottage on the same rocky beach. My ceramic works are also inspired by the infinite variation of form that undersea life takes. My hand painted porcelain stoneware vessels are reminiscent of barnacles, sponges, and corals. My ceramic sculpture reflects a fondness of the female figure as shown below. Jazz is another influence in my work. I sketch and take pictures at live Jazz concerts and often have the performers autograph my sketches. I have a jazz inspired series of larger paintings planned |
