Gathering
Praying through the stations of the cross has
    been a traditional method of
devotion in the Christian church since the Middle-
Ages. Christians desired to literally take up their
cross to follow in the last footsteps of Christ.
The wealthy made pilgrimages to the Holy Land
to do so, but most Christian could not afford to
do this. So the Church created small displays
that illustrated the specific events around the
periphery of the sanctuary. Traditionally these
have been paintings or sculptures and Christians
would read the scriptures pertaining to the event
    at each station and pray.
